Signal bars show only part of the picture. The real experience depends on interference, channels, device density, uplinks and the way roaming is handled.
Coverage is not capacity
An access point may be heard from a long distance, but that does not mean it can serve dozens of active users at once. Voice, video, POS and cloud applications have different requirements.
The design considers where users are located, how many devices connect, which construction materials are present and where the heaviest traffic occurs.
- Floor plan and construction materials.
- User density and device types.
- Application requirements and peak periods.
- Available cabling, PoE and uplink speed.
Channels, power and interference
Excessive transmit power does not always solve the problem. It can keep clients connected to a distant access point and increase overlap between cells.
Channels, bands and power levels need coordination based on measurements in the real environment. Neighbouring installations and layout changes can alter conditions.
Separate access
Corporate Wi-Fi, guests, POS terminals, cameras and IoT devices do not need to share one network. Separate SSIDs, VLANs and firewall policies restrict what each category can reach.
Security also includes strong authentication, controlled credentials, current firmware and protection of the cloud accounts used to manage the infrastructure.
- Separate corporate users, guests and specialised devices.
- Define which networks are allowed to communicate.
- Protect the central management account with MFA.
- Monitor access points, clients and uplinks.
Installation ends with measurement
After installation, coverage, roaming, real throughput and key usage scenarios are tested. Results are compared with the requirements recorded at the beginning.
Documenting locations, cabling, VLANs and settings enables future support without restarting every diagnosis from zero.
